1st Clacton-on-Sea Girls' Brigade Company was established
in 1922.
Currently, there are approximately seventy girls in our company, with quite
a large group of seniors (age 11-14), which is encouraging.
Each section continues work towards their badges. Last year's
topics included: team games, outdoor safety, cookery, Bible Study and sign
language.
Our summer camp 2004, saw us return to Stubbers Adventure Centre,
Upminister, where we enjoyed various outdoor activities including; wobbly
boards; high ropes; canoeing; banana boating and quad biking. Daily
Devotions explored the theme of 'choices', encouraging the girls to consider
which important choices they make.
In all activities the girls take part in we try to ensure
that we incorporate our motto, aim and principles which are:

This varies slightly dependent on the section the girl is in.
The award is split into three levels – Bronze, Silver and Gold. This award
can be worked for through various organisations and schools.
Each level is then split into four sections – Physical Recreation, Skills,
Service and Expedition, with an additional section of Residential for the Gold
Award.
The Award takes a lot of time, hard work and determination to complete, from
six
months - two years per award depending upon the level.
We
have had many of our Brigaders complete the Gold Award and
we are very proud of them all. It is a great achievement for them. This
entitles them to wear the Gold Award Brooch.
