Our Explorer section are aged between 4 and 8 years.
We generally have around 25 Explorers in our Company. Their uniform consists of a red polo shirt, navy tunic, navy sweatshirt, white
socks
and black shoes. The girls are divided into four groups:
-
Yellow Group (4-5 years)
-
Red Group (5-6 years)
-
Blue Group (6-7 years)
-
Green Group (7-8 years)
Girls of Explorer age are becoming aware that there is much in life is
unknown to them, and our programme, the symbol of which is a star, helps to
guide them as they grow.
Explorer Stars
The Explorers work for badges (stars) from the age of five.
There are three levels of stars - Bronze, Silver and Gold. Each star is
split into four sections – Spiritual, Physical, Educational and Service, and it
takes an Explorer approximately a year to complete each star, with a minimum of
two hours teaching per subject (or section).
Attendance Awards
Girls can also gain attendance awards in the form of badges which are pinned
to
their armband along with the Stars: -
-
Company Service – gained by attending 75% of Company nights.
-
Church Service – awarded to girls who regularly
attend a Church or Junior Church. Our own
Junior Church,
is held on Sunday mornings from 10:30am until 11:45am.
Apart from badge work, the girls undertake many other activities, such as
craft, games, outings, etc. Each year, the Explorers from all over the District meet up for an Explorer
Afternoon which consists of all types of activities, and fun is had by all –
including the Officers!
At Christmas, we either hold a disco when Father Christmas pays us a visit,
or we
all go on an outing somewhere. In July, we hold a Display and Awards Evening, when the Explorers all take
part
in
an item in the Display, and also receive any badges they have worked for all
year
and any shields they have been awarded. We then round off the year with an end of year party, with a disco, food and
games.
