Some of our members are involved with "Haven In Romania",
a registered charity which provides Christian Ministry and Humanitarian
Aid to a rural area in North Eastern Romania. They work through the
Baptist Church at Piatra Neamt in that town and surrounding villages,
which may be anything up to 3 - 4 hours journey away.
After working in the area since the revolution they are well known in
the area, and are asked to assist with various projects. So long as
it has the blessing of the church through which they work, they will help,
if they can.
The latest such extra project involves care for elderly in the
Community - something which just does not exist, and is not recognised by
the National and Local Governments as being necessary. That project
also involves a day centre for the elderly that are able to travel to it.
Three years ago they established "Breakfasts for Women" in the
local Baptist Church at Piatra Neamt. The meetings are attended by
between 100 - 150 women, many of them from outside the church.
The May 2000 meeting was attended by women from 3 - 4 other Baptist
Churches, in the surrounding towns, because they had heard about it, and
wanted to start "Breakfasts for Women" in their churches.
God is moving in a powerful way in the Church at Piatra Neamt.
We have provided financial aid for their work, and a couple of years
ago provided a number of power tools that help the skilled unemployed (85%
unemployment in the area) to earn some money.
